How to Navigate Our Ever-Changing Blog

May 3, 2010

Can I first note how proud I am of making this little “Blog GPS” in Photoshop?  Okay…thanks.

If any of you have been asking yourself the following questions:

  • What are all these new tabs and what do they mean?
  • Why does the header image and color keep changing?
  • Aghhh!! What’s going on?!?

Ok, the last one isn’t a question, but either way, we are here to help.  In this post, we’ll provide a brief outline and explanation of our blog plans, compulsive need to make changes, as well as tips to navigate the site.

Header Image & Font Color:

We think we have officially chosen our favorite header image (for now!)  It’s a lot easier on the eyes and we’re loving the color composition at the moment.  In the future, we plan on changing the header image every so often in order to change things up and keep the blog fresh.  After all, we love art and design, so it only makes sense for us to play around with the visuals.  We’d love to hear feedback on the new look!

Tab Menu & Blog Page Info:

While you may or may not have noticed, we have been playing around with the tab/page names for quite some time.  For now, we have decided on the following (titles in bold have been added in last week or so).  Look below for a brief description of what you can expect to find under the following sections:

  • About Us
  • FAQ
  • For Your Entertainment
  • GoodEats
  • Style/Design
  • DC Living
  • DC Wining & Dining
  • Travel

About Us & FAQ

As obvious as this sounds, we actually plan on adding a bit more to our “About Us” page, including this post on how to navigate the blog so that our readers don’t feel lost.  We also hope to add more answers to our most frequently asked questions, or questions that we think will give you a better feel for ourselves, our design aesthetics, and the blog.

For Your Entertainment

This is the page where you can find all posts on reviews of books, movies, or other tech-related items, as well as party ideas and suggestions.  For example, Caroline recently posted on a great recipe for a Gin Bucket for your next outdoor get together.  In addition, each Sunday we’ll be posting a Download of the Week, which includes a song we suggest you listen to.  You’ll see a huge variety of music featured, since between the two of us, we appear to be musically bipolar.  We’ll post either a song that we are currently obsessed with, just recently rediscovered, or one we have always loved!

Hmm…who doesn’t love good food?  We certainly do, which is why we have dedicated an entire blog page to our favorite recipes, as well as recommendations on helpful kitchen tools, such as our earlier posts on Microplane  Zesters and Pizza Stones.  In addition, we’ll also post on what to buy (favorite food products, food shopping tips, etc) and where to shop.  While some posts may inevitably be on stores available only in the DC area, more often tthan not, they will be geographically-representative of all our readers!

On this page, you’ll find design and decoration advice for your home/apartment/closet (hopefully it’s not the latter), as well as fun DIY projects with step-by-step instructions.  These posts will usually include cheap and easy design alternatives and information on where to find materials and products.  In addition, this page will also be dedicated to other goodies, such as fashion, beauty products, and accessories that we’re digging at the moment.  For example, check our most recent “Style Picks”, such as Caroline’s “It’s All  In the Details” and Laura’s “Light & Airy posts.

DC Living

This page is dedicated specifically to fellow DC-resident blog readers (hollaaaa!) or those planning on visiting the DC area in the near future!  Right at the top of the page, we’ll be providing a DC Right Now spotlight of upcoming events in the area.  On this page, you can also find information on our favorite DC day activities, places to visit, as well as our very own recommendations on nightlife options, including concerts, clubs, bars, and shows.  Some other fun DC-related posts can also be found on this page!

DC Wining & Dining

We’ve decided to dedicate two whole pages to DC related posts!  Washington, D.C. has endless dining options, and here we bring you restaurant reviews and our all-time favorite spots.  Whether you want to find a low-key coffee shop, great family fare, delicious seafood, Thai, or maybe the perfect restaurant to take a date, we’ll help you out.

We love to travel and have been fortunate enough to have visited some amazing cities, studied abroad, as well as have had family that lived/live across the globe.  This page will be dedicated to travel guides for towns, cities, states, and countries, restaurant reviews (both US and international), as well as helpful Travel 101 Tips.  We also hope to share with you some of our own personal travel wish lists for places we are dying to visit, and hopefully they can serve as inspiration for your own destination planning, too!

Are you still reading?  If so, we’d like to wrap up this post by saying thanks for being patient with our blog–we’re always looking to better its functionality, navigability, as well as its aesthetic appeal–and as always, thanks for reading!  Feel free to email us @ youngdcliving AT gmail  DOT com or leave comments below.  We hope you like what you see!

Aww! You’re so sweet. SO sorry for the late response, for some reason WordPress thought you were spam (?!) and we didn’t discover your comment until just recently. Thanks for stopping by!
