Pizza from Pie-Tanza? Yes, Please!
Raise your hand if you don’t like pizza? No one? Yeah, I didn’t think so.
Everyone likes pizza–it’s basic but always satisfying. However, some pizza is better than others, and some pizza joints put others to shame.
Pie-Tanza is one of those.
Located in Arlington and Falls Church (and now Columbia, SC, too!), what sets Pie-Tanza apart is that their pizza is made in a large stone wood-fired oven, giving this Neapolitan-style pizza the perfect crust and a rich flavor. Just take a gander at their menu and let’s see if you don’t salivate at just the thought of this food.
You get to choose from thirteen 12-inch pizzas on the menu, or you can select from nearly 40 toppings and make your own creation. The tomato sauce is slightly sweet, but not overwhelmingly so (I tend to prefer sauce that isn’t very sweet), and the crust is soft and thin, with just the right amount of crunch. The pizza is also light on grease and always has super fresh ingredients and toppings. Yumm.
As you can tell, my family was quick to devour what I brought home last time I went here—I turned my back for just a second and next thing I knew slices were already missing! I guess that’s what happens when you have brothers.
My favorite pizzas are the margherita (pure perfection) and the classic mediterranean, and their desserts and salads are superb, too. I couldn’t get enough of the goat cheese salad, pictured below (mixed field greens, minced red onion, diced roma tomato, goat cheese, and toasted walnuts with halved grapes in a light oregano vinaigrette.)
The restaurant’s atmosphere is also fun and makes it a great hang-out spot–the open kitchen lets you see your food being made, and the oven is surrounded by a circular table where the chefs are hard at work. The place is cozy and casual—perfect for family or for hanging out with friends.
They don’t deliver unfortunately, but you can stop by for take-out.
