Frequently Asked Questions:

When did you two graduate?

  • We both graduated in May of 2010, so we only recently became official college graduates (Caroline is 22, and Laura just turned 23 in July).  We had the idea to start a blog together for our post-graduate time in DC, but we were too excited to wait, so we snuck and started up the blog in March. 🙂

What made you decide to start a blog?

  • Laura and I have always been really into art and design, so the blog idea stemmed from that.  When I was a little kid, I secretly wanted to be an author or an artist/designer (or a policewoman, randomly enough!), and Laura wanted to be a vet.  We have new career goals, but we still love to take on artsy projects.  Even though we most of the time can’t afford what we see or don’t have the house/apartment for it, we like to keep track of design items and ideas we like from stores and companies like Pottery Barn, Anthropologie, and Real Simple.  We decided it would be fun to document our post-graduate lives in DC and give advice to people who are our age, are new to the city, or just enjoy good design.  From there, we decided to add our love of travel, food, and more.  We have two very different perspectives, but we have been best friends for 10 years now, so we know each other really well and (we think at least!) make a pretty good team!

I know you’re busy ladies, but you seem to write a lot!  How often do you guys spend on your blog each week, and how do you manage having two people?

  • We take this blog seriously and are really excited to see it grow, so even though we’re both busy finding jobs working, taking classes, studying for the GRE, and writing graduate school applications, we spend a lot of time on what you see.  Luckily we both have strong writing backgrounds to help us out, but between editing the layout of the site, writing posts, and doing research, we typically each spend 12-15 hours per week working on the blog.  We post 5 days a week (weekdays) and also include a “Download of the Week” on Sundays, and occasionally we include short posts on Saturdays as well.  We typically take turns writing but sometimes do joint posts, especially for events like our invitation to screen the film “A Matter of Size.”  It works well having two people—when one of us has a busy week, the other is there to lend a helping hand and give support!  And that’s what friends are for, after all.  Aww.  Cheesy but true!
